HIV/AIDS & STD Prevention & Control Project Among High Risk Group
At a time when HIV prevalence rate was in the range of 7% in the community, MGVS initiated work with the government, female sex workers, and civil society to raise awareness and promote safe sex practices. The HIV prevalence is now down to 0.41%.
For the past almost two decades, MGVS has worked with the female sex workers,, vulnerable, bridge, PLHIV population to educate them on safe sex practices to prevent Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) and HIV. The Peer Educators (PE), Health and Link Worker (LW) trained by MGVS team, are from target group and are constantly involved in sharing such knowledge with others in the target group. Presently we are working on prevention and control of STD & HIV/AIDS in 100 vulnerable villages, Paithan, Kuhltabad and Aurangabad town.
LINK WORKER SCHEME/COMMUNITY MOBILIZATION
Link worker scheme launched in 2009, the Link Worker Scheme (LWS) has been a pivotal force in Aurangabad, targeting high‐risk groups with crucial HIV/AIDS prevention and control measures. This project has dynamically adapted over 14 years, expanding its reach to 100 high‐risk villages Our objective was clear: reduce HIV prevalence rate in project area and empower communities with knowledge and resources for HIV/AIDS prevention and care.
FEMALE SEX WORKER TARGETED INTERVENTION PROJECT
In collaboration with the Maharashtra State AIDS Control Society (MSACS), MGVS has been at the forefront of providing crucial health services to 1,300 female sex workers (FSWs) in Aurangabad. District this project was meticulously designed to address the acute health risks faced by FSWs, focusing on preventing and controlling STDs and HIV/AIDS. By ensuring community involvement at every project stage, from planning to evaluation, we’ve fostered an environment of trust and active participation among the beneficiaries.
MIGRANT TARGETED INTERVENTION PROJECT
The”Migrant Targeted Intervention Project” focuses on enhancing the health and safety of Aurangabad’s industrial migrant workers. This initiative, backed by the Maharashtra State AIDS Control Society, aims to provide vital HIV/AIDS prevention services to this mobile and vulnerable population. It emphasizes awareness, HIV testing, and STI treatment, aiming to integrate these workers into a comprehensive health care system and improve health equity.
